Setting up a Facebook business page is an important step for any business to take. It's free, it's a great way to reach (potentially) millions, and you can showcase your business, new products, employees and promotions on a daily basis if you choose.

It only takes a few steps to set up a Facebook business page. Remember, a Facebook page will require additional time to update. Be prepared to dedicate extra time for maintaining your page and interacting with fans, or (if time is limited) work with someone that can help manage your Facebook presence for you.

Steps to Setting up a Facebook Business Page:

  1. Create a personal profile for yourself through Facebook.
  2. After your personal profile is set up, visit their Create a Page section to create an official page for your business, organization, brand, cause, or more - you have many options to develop a page specific to your needs.
  3. Submit your basic company information, and include a blurb about your business. Mention the goal of your Facebook page and why people should “like” your Facebook page. For example: “Like our page to stay informed on the latest news at [Your Company]. Check back daily for special offers/tips/promotions/etc."
  4. Upload a Facebook profile picture. A company logo that people will associate with your brand is often a safe bet.
  5. Upload a cover photo as well. Facebook recently loosened the rules on what businesses can do with their cover photos, so calls-to-action, company information, promotions, etc. are all allowed (as long as the photo is no more than 20%). The cover photo is the first thing people see on a page, so use this chuck of prime real estate wisely.
  6. Give people access to interact with your page through your settings. From "Edit Page" at the top right of your business Facebook homepage, choose "Edit Settings". Be sure that the "Page Visibility" box is unchecked (so your page is published). Check the boxes giving fans the ability to post, tag, and send messages. Uncheck the "Post privacy gating" box, so your posts are always public.
  7. Create your first post using the publisher on your Facebook business page! Consider an introductory post for your first one, introducing your business and reminding followers to check back for news and specials. Be sure to post regularly to keep fans interacting, and check back so you can respond to any questions or comments. The more you engage in your Facebook page, the more your fans will engage. You can even write some general posts in advance to stay ahead of the game.

Once You Have the Basics Down:

Upload photos of your products, your staff, and/or company events. If you have a video about your business, upload it in the "Videos" application. If you have other social media accounts (such as Twitter, Pinterest or Instagram), sync these with your Facebook page so that updates will show on all accounts.

Announce your Facebook Page:

Get the word out on your new Facebook business page everywhere! Mention it on your website or blog. Add a “Follow us on Facebook” button to these site. Add a link to your Facebook business page in your email signature. Announce your Facebook page in your next newsletter. Consider placing a Facebook ad to attract more fans. Sync your Facebook account to your smartphone so you can make changes or respond to comments on-the-go. Also, be sure to “like” HEROweb Marketing & Design on Facebook. Helpful Hints:

To edit anything on your page click “Edit Page” in the upper right hand corner. From there you will see a drop down for editing public info, settings, managing roles, and more. Once you have made your edits, search for your page’s name in the search field to see what others see when they search, and make changes as needed.

Final Note:

Remember, Facebook is all about interaction with your fans. Have fun with it, and make it a two-way conversation to keep people talking.
