Evaluate Your Page Titles in Webmaster Tools

Page titles are are one of the key search ranking factors that the major search engines (including Google) look at when deciding which pages to return in a search. Because of this, we advise site owners to write unique and descriptive page titles that include one to three short keyword phrases that describe what your site is about (and what you would want someone to type into a search engine to find your site).

Log into your Google Webmaster Tools account (or sign up if you do not yet have an account), click "Optimization" on the left hand side of the screen, and then click "HTML Improvements". By clicking on any highlighted links ("Duplicate title tags, for example), you can find out what Google thinks of your page titles. Google does not care for pages that duplicate the same title, or pages that have no title or a non-descriptive title (such as "Home" for the home page), so be sure to address these issues. Strong page titles will help your sites performance in search engine rankings in the long run.
