This month, we’re shining the spotlight on MightyMerchant’s “Recent Items” feature, which makes it easy for shoppers to track items they have viewed on a website. And, if you have not yet noticed, we have ramped up our video production in recent months. Please have a look at our short video illustrating how a website built for mobile interaction improves the shopping experience. Lastly, we’ve included our revised tips on how to best get webhelp support when you are having an issue with your site.

Are Mobile Websites Optional?

There is no denying the explosive growth in the number of on-the-go shoppers. Mobile websites are mission-critical for conducting online business. If you don’t already have a mobile site for your business, go mobile today!

MightyMerchant Feature of the Month: Recent Items

The Recently Viewed Items feature adds a shopper’s most recently viewed products to a designated area on each page of your site. In addition to reminding the shopper of their favorite products, having the items in front of them means fewer clicks to add those items to their cart and place an order. Recently viewed items can appear on virtually any page of your site.

Add the Recently Viewed Items feature to your website! Give us a call at 888-257-2567, send us an email at webhelp@heroweb.com, or visit online at www.heroweb.com.

Tech Tip: Avoid Session ID Numbers in Your Links

What is a session ID?
When an item is added to the cart on your website, a session ID is created. The session ID is a long string of numbers that will appear in the URL of the website page. It identifies a specific order that a user has started. When you are creating a link, either in the Site Manager, or pasting to a newsletter or email, be sure not to include the session ID because all people who click the link will share the same shopping cart and will not be able to create a fresh order. This can be especially bad if a search engine indexes the link.

Correct: www.mysite.com/home/ms1/page_47/myproduct.html

Incorrect: www.mysite.com/home/ms1_1234567/page_47/myproduct.html

Note: The “ms1” in the URL is the store ID. The store ID will be different on each MightyMerchant site.

What if I accidentally send out a link with the session ID?
Send an email webhelp@heroweb.com and provide the exact version of the link that contains the session ID. We can intercept requests to that link and send them to a page that does not contain the session ID.

Welcoming New Websites

HEROweb is pleased to announce McKenzie Valley Pump as the most recent addition to our family of desktop and mobile sites. After a disappointing experience with another website provider, owners Ted and Leslie West chose HEROweb to redesign their company’s website. We’re so glad they did! Established in 1984, McKenzie Valley Pump offers new pump and water system equipment installation and repair services for residential and small commercial properties in East Lane County. Congratulations, MVP!

The Oregon Cotton Mill now offers a mobile website for their on-the-go customers. Shoppers can easily browse weekly specials, new arrivals, and more with a simple tap of the screen. Like all HEROweb mobile sites, Oregon Cotton Mill mobile is equipped with large buttons, expandable menus, a search field, fully functional shopping cart, and highly visible contact information, making the mobile shopping experience a breeze.

After launching a newly designed and rebranded website in February of this year, Oregon Contemporary Theatre is excited to offer a mobile version of their site, where theatre-goers can purchase tickets, register for classes, and more.
